PMI, or Project Management Institute, is an organization dedicated to supporting and developing project managers across the globe. In addition to training, resources, events, and certifications, PMI loves to highlight successful, well-run projects. One of their annual features is the PMI Awards, where notable large-scale projects that were successfully completed are celebrated.
However, in 2019, PMI wanted to do more. Taking on the challenge of ranking the 50 most influential projects of the past 50 years, PMI selected a huge range of projects to highlight, from the creation of Bitcoin, to the invention of the Atari 2600, to the filming of Star Wars.
As part of a team of experts, we were tasked with creating videos to highlight each of these projects. We had to bring together narration, b-roll, stock footage, and imagery to showcase how each project had proved to be truly influential on the world.
While I enjoyed working on projects such as the Atari 2600 and Star Wars, the most notable for me was taking on the #1 most influential project: the World Wide Web.
This challenge was bigger than the others. How does one represent the World Wide Web in all its vastness? How do you tell the story that encompasses a million stories?
For this video, I pitched an idea to have a timeline featuring snippets of notable moments, memes, images, and sounds that became famous across the internet. Using the PMI style guide for colors and shapes, I built and animated a timeline to try and capture the scale of the internet.
